crossroads review
A Crossroads Review helps Boards see what is realistically possible next and decide accordingly.
A Crossroads Review is a short, independent assessment for charities at a point of choice, uncertainty, or change. It brings together financial, organisational, leadership, and external evidence to clarify the organisation’s prospects and the credible paths ahead.
It shows what is achievable at different scales, what trade-offs each option involves, and where current assumptions no longer hold. Options may include growth, consolidation, restructuring, partnership, or closure.
The review is designed to support Trustees to make clear, defensible decisions about the organisation’s future direction and shape, based on evidence rather than assumption, momentum, or hope.
Standard Crossroads Review – £4,200+VAT
The Standard Crossroads Review provides a comprehensive assessment of the organisation’s prospects, combining internal analysis with external insight and costed options. It is designed for situations where decisions are complex, high-stakes, or require testing assumptions beyond the organisation itself.
What this includes:
- A structured kick-off with the Chair and Executive Lead to confirm scope, decision questions, timelines, communications, and evidence required
- A detailed financial analysis including costed scenarios, shutdown and redundancy costs, and assessment of financial risk across options
- Review of governance arrangements, leadership capacity, organisational structure, systems, culture, and resilience
- Interviews with Trustees, staff, and relevant external stakeholders
- External insight, including partner, funder, or market perspectives and consideration of collaboration, integration, or merger where relevant
- Development of multiple strategic pathways with clear articulation of implications, risks, assumptions, and trade-offs
- A written report setting out findings, options, and a clear recommendation
- A structured Board session to walk through the evidence, test assumptions, explore trade-offs, and support informed decision-making.
An additional one day Finance Director review can be added to this package for £750+VAT.
Essentials Crossroads Review – £3,000+VAT
For small charities under £250,000 only
The Essentials Crossroads Review follows the same overall structure and decision logic as the Standard review but with a reduced scope. It is designed for smaller organisations where the key questions are primarily internal and the cost or disruption of extensive external work would not be proportionate.
What this includes:
- A structured kick-off with the Chair and Executive Lead to confirm scope, decision questions, timelines, communications, and evidence required
- A high-level financial review covering reserves, cashflow, liabilities, income reliability, cost drivers, and immediate risks
- Review of governance arrangements, leadership capacity, organisational structure, and internal resilience
- Targeted interviews with senior staff and selected Trustees
- Identification of a small number of realistic options and the implications of each
- A concise written report setting out findings, options, and a clear recommendation
- A Board presentation with Q&A focused on immediate decisions and next steps.
An additional one day Finance Director review can be added to this package for £750+VAT.
